winner, is going to have a big day today. In addition to doing a cyberchat
with the entire nation through America Online, Holliston, Massachusetts'
own is slated to do a major interview and photo shoot for USA Today.
Having followed Messina's career since her return with "Bye,
Bye" -- named one of their Critics Choice Top 10 singles of 1998 --
and throughout the life of her double-platinum I'm Alright, the
national newspaper is going to catch up with the CMA Female Vocalist of
the Year nominee since her brand new Burn debuted at #1 on
Billboard's Country Album Chart and see how success impacted the creation
of her third and latest Curb Nashville release.
"I'm honored that they've been watching
me," says Messina, "and also that we're doing a story."
The piece will be written by Brian Mansfield. The

"Later" Day Jo Dee
|
|
|
|
People looking for Jo Dee Messina on last night's
edition of "Later With Cynthia Garrett" obviously came up
disappointed -- as the singer's appearance was moved at the last minute.
Seems the chemistry between Messina and Garrett was so strong and
freewheeling that the executive producers rescheduled the show to their
traditionally highest rated night: Thursday! (Oct 19) Not only will fans
of Messina's brand of high-energy country be treated to spirited
performances of her four-week #1 "That's The Way" and her
fastest-moving single ever Tina Arena's "Burn," but the
red-headed songstress also talks animatedly about love and work ethic, the
proposal from fiancée Don Muzquiz and staying with it to make your dreams
reality. She also takes time to tackle the "Later List" -- a
series of quick hit questions that often deliver surprising responses.
In addition, Messina can be found on The TV Guide
Channel all day this Thursday -- doing both a sitdown interview with music
hostess Katie Wagner as well as taking their crew on an exclusive
backstage visit at Messina's "Later" rehearsals and taping.

"That's The Way" Jo Dee Messina Goes #1
|
|
|
|
Nashville: While Jo Dee Messina was skipping over international
timelines with her usual high spirits, she proved in no uncertain
terms she knows how to make sure the folks back home didn't forget
her. Messina, in Switzerland for the Gstaad Festival and then onto
London for promo work, to support her new record, left the country
as "That's The Way," the lead single from her already gold Burn,
topped Billboard's Country Singles chart.
"I am always so grateful to country radio and the fans...

The Shoes Off Her Feet
|
|
|
|
Jo Dee Messina is on fire -- as BURN, her third release for Curb Nashville
debuts at the top of Billboard's Country Album chart and "That's The
Way," the lead single, is sitting at #5 with a bullet. And even with the
rush rush of doing CMT: Country Music Television's "All Access" live
concert special and a live radio special to preview the new record that
was aired on 754 stations all around the world, the double-platinum
songstress still has time to look out for her people.
When her publicist was admiring a pair of shoes in her dressing room for a
recent Country Weekly shoot, Messina offered, "I'm throwing 'em out.
They make my feet bleed..." Ever the Imelda Marcos, her publicist joked,
"Well, don't do that! They'll fit me."
"Take 'em then," Messina offered. But the publicist demured,
figuring Messina would need them to take to New York to try on clothes
for the Oct 4th Country Music Association Awards, where she is enjoying
her second consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year Award nomination.
After all, anyone who knows Jo Dee knows stiletto heels are the last
thing she'd be wearing for pleasure.
A few days later, a purple gift bag turned up on the publicist's doorstep.
Inside, there were the rhinestone encrusted strappy Gina high heels.
After wearing the shoes for her fittings, Messina remembered that there
was someone else who wanted them more -- and sent them over with a note
saying "Wear 'em for both of us!"

Jo Dee Messina Returns To Macy's Thanksgiving
Parade |
|
|
|
Nashville: She's been named Billboard's
Most Played Country Female Artist of 1999 -- placing four songs in the
past two years' Top 10 (1998's #2 "I'm Alright," 1999's #3 "Lesson In
Leavin'," 1998's "Bye, Bye" and 1999's #7 "Stand Beside Me"). She's sold
over two million copies of I'm Alright and saw her #1 Billboard Country
Album debut Burn go gold in three weeks. She's toured as the Judds'
special guest on their reunion tour, as part of George Strait's Country
Festival and all over Australia, Japan and Europe.
But this Thanksgiving, the redheaded songstress is thankful for a return
trip to one of America's long-standing holiday traditions: the Macy's
Thanksgiving Day Parade. Messina, who made her parade debut in 1998,
will ride this year's Jello float and sing several songs from her brand
new Burn.

London where she's in the midst of a whirlwind promotional tour to

Messina's star `Burn's bright at Music Circus |
|
|
|
by Sarah Rodman (Boston Herald)
Monday, August 7, 2000 - Jo Dee Messina at South Shore Music Circus,
Cohasset, Saturday night.
The pride of Holliston, Jo Dee Messina, came home Saturday night and
made it abundantly clear how she has become a star of the highest order
in country music.
Everything about Messina's soul restoring performance at the South Shore
Music Circus - from her soaring, indisputably sincere vocals, the
rocking finesse of her equally pumped seven-piece backing band, the
overwhelming warmth of the wildly supportive crowd - meshed for one
perfect performance that the singer isn't likely to forget. |

Nashville Sound: Jo Dee Messina |
|
|
|
By JIM PATTERSON, Associated Press
Writer NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -
In Music City's extended family, Jo Dee Messina is the little sister.
She's plucky and likable, but insecure about measuring up to Shania Twain
and Faith Hill, her slightly older, more glamorous counterparts.
"Confidence is definitely not a word that I would use in describing
myself," said Messina, 29. "I'm fashion illiterate. I don't see myself
as glamorous."
But she had more radio airplay than any other female country artist in
1999, according to Billboard magazine, and she's sold more than 2
million copies of her latest album, I'm Alright.
In addition, Messina is one of the nominees for best female vocalist
at this year's Country Music Association awards. Hill, Martina McBride,
Lee Ann Womack and Trisha Yearwood have also been nominated. The winners
will be announced in October.
Messina believes she has earned her success by the sweat of her brow. |
