Curb pulls a surprise for Jo Dee's album

It has been a few years since Jo Dee Messina has come out with a new album, and for the past several months, her camp has been talking about her upcoming album, Delicious Surprise.

Here's a not-so-tasty surprise for Jo Dee: Her label, Curb Records, isn't releasing that album, at least not yet. Seems the label instead is coming out with a yet-to-be-named greatest hits collection May 20.

What gives? Some folks in Jo Dee's camp say she turned in an album she's proud of quite a while ago. But Curb says she's still working on it.

Ain't this all confusing?

Jo Dee's management company's official comment: ''Jo Dee has been working hard for the last three years on her studio album and we have great hopes that it will be released this fall.''

Brad Schmitt - The Tennessean

Jo Dee Messina Knew Former Duet Partner Tampa Bay Quarterback Brad Johnson Was Destined To Shine

Multi platinum recording artist Jo Dee Messina has known for some time what the world learned last night: that Brad Johnson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a survivor. Johnson's road to center stage at the Super Bowl has included 11 NFL seasons, three teams, two years curtailed by injury, one trade and one free-agent signing. Plus one recording career.

Messina and Johnson recorded the Messina-penned original, "I'm A Survivor," in 1998 for inclusion on a compilation CD that featured NFL members paired with country stars. At the time, Johnson played for the Minnesota Vikings.

The pair even performed the duet on the then daytime chat show, "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee." Through the years, Messina kept in touch with Johnson and they'd meet up from time to time at one of her concert dates.

"It's unbelievable when you listen to the words," Johnson said today to CNNSI.com. "The meaning there is for me. It fits my whole career to a tee. I kept those lyrics because when I read them I said, 'There's something to this one.'"

Messina spoke briefly with Johnson on Friday, wishing him well for Sunday's big match-up. Johnson responded by reciting a few of the lyrics from "Survivor:" I was born a believer, biggest dreamer this world has ever seen.

"I was so thrilled for Brad," Messina commented today. "To watch him play in the Super Bowl and know how long his journey has been was nothing short of amazing. He is so deserving of all of this as he truly is a survivor," she added.

Hits Package Slated for Jo Dee Messina

A Jo Dee Messina greatest hits collection is being put together by Curb Records and the toughest job may be trying to decide which of her many hits to include.

In very little time the Grammy nominated hit maker has amassed 11 Top 10 hits, 8 of which were #1 smashes. Titles like "Heads Carolina, Tails California," "I'm Alright," "Bye, Bye," "Stand Beside Me," and "That's The Way" have become signature songs for Messina. And her recent #1 country hit, "Bring On The Rain," became a crossover adult contemporary hit as well.

There will be a new track on the hits package: Messina's current single, "Was That My Life." As yet untitled, the hits collection will be released May 20th.

The Boston native can also be heard on the soundtrack from the soon to be released Miramax comedy "View From The Top," starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Mike Myers.
